James Rumple


Jim has 40 years experience in the publishing industry. He helped establish Balance Imaging Solutions, LLC in April, 2011 to serve the needs of on-line publishing and digital conversion. His career includes 30 years with ProQuest (University Microfilms, Inc.) of Ann Arbor, MI, a leader in online academic research collections, micropublishing newspapers, doctoral dissertations, and rare book collections. In 1994 Jim was a core team member responsible for the development of the manufacturing capability for ProQuest Direct, the online document delivery system. He then led the Advanced Document Manufacturing area, a 24X7 operation with over 100 technicians creating digital content from hardcopy periodicals and monographs.

In 1999 Jim joined LexisNexis (Congressional Information Service) as Vice President of Imaging and Manufacturing at the California, MD micrographic and imaging lab where he is responsible for the micrographic, distribution, and digitization operations. He worked to transform the operation from photography to digital imaging and emphasizes lean manufacturing methodologies. The St. Mary’s plant has digitized several microfiche collections including US Serial Set (10M pages), Congressional Record, and Congressional Hearings (25M pages). Current projects include digitization for LexisNexis (JLL, BPM documents), Expert Testimony, Pentagon Library, Historic Bills from the Senate Library non-destructive book digitization. The St. Mary’s facility was the recipient of the LexisNexis Innovation award.

Jim earned an MBA degree from Norwich University and a BS degree from Eastern Michigan University. He holds current memberships in AIIM, and The Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME).
